Hello from Terry Lee and Fred – estate sale enthusiasts and now website authors. In 2004, we decided that a website would spread the word about upcoming events more effectively than the numerous e-mails we were sending out. So after several months of starts and restarts – the website debuted May 11, 2005! That’s the short version. For more detail … read on!
My husband, Fred, has been going to garage sales, flea markets, auctions, estate sales, you name it, for years. I just became a convert after Fred and I married – but not at first. In the last three years, I’ve come over to his side of thinking and I’ve been making up for lost time.
When I began tagging along with Fred I couldn’t read a Mapsco, got frustrated trying to look up the numbers while driving, and hated the different ways the CLASSIFIEDS listed sales. I signed up for e-mails from every Seller in town who had a list and then waited for the onslaught of notifications filling my “In Box” on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Unfortunately, not all my favorite Sellers sent e-mails so I continued to checkout the CLASSIFIEDS.
Fred and I discussed ways to make our weekend “shopping” easier and more fun. We needed complete times and addresses (including Mapsco), pictures when possible and links to existing websites where detailed descriptions were usually available. A limited number of Sellers already had the package, everything we needed – most did not. Thus, the idea of the website was born.
We went to Sellers who didn’t send e-mails and sold them on the idea of letting us be their e-mail service. Only one stipulation applied – sales had to be previewed in advance, thus eliminating the problem of “too little information.” Fred and I then added the information we thought helpful and/or indispensable to determine which sales to attend. When there are 60+ listing in the CLASSIFIEDS, you have to devise a short list before you get into the car. Examine our website; tell us if you think we made the decision process easier or harder. E-mail us with your thoughts and suggestions.
Thanks for taking the time to read “About Us” and we look forward to meeting you at the next great estate sale. Terry Lee and Fred.
